Going beyond the text book
Connecting knowledge to life outside the school....
Debasish Mandal
Teacher, The Oriental Seminary
The mini Harekarakamba, an one day Fair to celebrate diverse approaches to learning, took place on Friday,12 November 2010 on our school campus ( THE ORIENTAL SEMINARY) from 10am to 4pm in collaboration with Development Research Communication and Service Centre, Kolkata.
The fair envisages the celebration of diverse approaches to learning. It tries to perceive Education beyond its common meaning. Be it within or without the classroom, the focus is on learning. The thrust is on acquiring skills through enthusiasm and creativity rather than reading the manual of how to acquire skills.
The schoolchildren took the major role of participation along with the local school pupils and teachers who came as visitors to enjoy.
Along with the number of stalls, a film show on environmental change and role of man in saving nature was screened in the adjoining hall. Different types of kid’s creations were added to the fair. The entire atmosphere took a festive look as the day advanced, with songs, rhymes, recitations, mimics and joyful shrieks from the children.
